"MAINTAIN YOUR MOP" - BASICS OF MOP CARE
Wet Mops
Wet mops come in a variety of yarns (cotton, rayon, synthetic and blends);
each one requiring its’ own care and maintenance according to manufacturers’
specifications.
There are some general tips to extend the life of your wet mops, regardless
of use and design.
-
condition or "break-in" new mops with a mild detergent
solution
-
cleaning with the top section of the mop can cause strands to shred,
particularly when using cut strand mops as opposed to the loop style
-
strong cleaning solutions such as lye and bleaches break the strands
and should be avoided where possible
-
on rough surfaces, mop in direction that minimizes snagging
-
use separate, different colored mops for separate tasks, ie: cleaning
and stripping
-
remove loose strands to prevent snagging and streaking
-
rinse and hang mops, strands down, in a dry, well ventilated area
Dust Mops
-
store mops in a dry area with head up, not on floor
-
shake out or vacuum mops regularly to remove large dirt particles
-
mop heads should be laundered regularly; most mops come in both
washable and disposable styles
-
use a treatment (ie: water-based chemical) on your mop as it can
help pick up to 80% more dust
