DUST MITESDust mites, linked with allergies, can result in significant health problems. Humans are allergic to the protein in the mites’ fecal matter and the body parts of dead mites; as they are small enough to become airborne.Dust mites live in bed mattresses, carpeting and furniture. They are approximately 1/2 a millimeter long and live as hundreds of different species. Mites need moisture to grow and survive. In buildings, where it never rains, mites require a moist food source. They feed on fragments of human skin cells, fungi and bacteria.Mites can live for up to two months and can exist for generations in vacuum bags, where they have an abundant food supply. Unless there is a high filtration system on your bag, mites that are vacuumed up can be released back into the environment.A comprehensive maintenance and awareness program will minimize the presence and effect that dust mites have on your facility.
