HIGH SPEED BURNISHINGHigh speed burnishing, or buffing, is dependant on your floor finish and their major ingredients. The polymer is the most important ingredient of the finish, defining wear and maintenance properties. These include scuff resistance, hardness, durability, gloss and resistance to soil, water and detergents. The second major component in the finish is "wax", also a polymer. Wax provides the buffability in a finish; the higher the wax content the more buffable the finish. There is a danger, however, in having too high of a wax content. The third component of the finish is composed of the plasticizers. These solvents assist in film formation and resiliency. All floor finish films are thermoplastic; meaning they will flow or become "plastic' when heated. It is important to remember that if you use a high speed burnishing program, you should have five to six coats of finish on the floor. This is to ensure you do not prematurely damage the tile on the floor, as burnishing abrasively removes the film. Several coats of finish give the floor a smooth surface that reflects light in an ordered pattern, increasing floor gloss. |
